GP Question 3 : Why do people play dota and is it more of a blessing than a curse? Write an essay between 300~500 words. ( uberly long post )

Some people might wonder, HowTF is dota FUN? And why some tards play it for years. I played it for so long that, my parents thought i couldn get thru the same maze for years... I believe that dota is surely more of a blessing than a curse. There is many advantages for playing dota while it does not have the negative externalites of other games.

Firstly, dota is very different from your MAPLE and stuff. In maple, there is like 3 kinds of players, those that play maple to kill time cos they hav nothing else to do ( watch my videos =D ), hence they find joy to kill mushrooms and chat in the virtual world. Another kind of player would be those that train very hard and then sell the items or account to others for REAL $$$, these are the smart people, making $$$ while playing, evil... ( but its not allowed right? ). Lastly, those people who actually loves to cling on ropes to heal their mana, and run around killing cute lil monsters, and feel that it is very very satisfying =/.

In dota, its a good side against the evil bahboh game. The aim of the game is to destroy each others' main shit, da tree for da good gays and the frozen throne for da baddies. There is 3 main lanes with many smaller paths which interlinks them. At each lane, both sides periodically releaes creeps ( something like soldiers of an country ), with towers situated a couple hundred metres apart each other. Bnd no, the player does not control these army and fight, the player controls a single "hero", which is a much stronger unit than creeps, like tanya or Yuri Prime in C&C. But this hero has gt skills to aid him/herself too.

There is more than 50 heros ( i think ), each with their own unique spells. There are melee, ranged and spellcasting heros. Each have 3 skills and 1 ultimate skill. From hear onwards, its all up to the player do decide the fate of the match.

Heroes can go to the battlefield, and participate in the fight, gaining experience points, which will allow him/herself to level up. Each level allow 1 more skill point to hone ur existing skill or learn a new one. Gold is gained every few secs, which is too small to be significant. Hence, the hero have to kill enemy units for bounty rewards, small reward for creeps and of course more for heroes and blah.

Very often, enemy heroes will also be around, and conflict often occurs. Heroes engage in a intense combat, which usually spells will be involved, like forked lighting, mana shield, brain sap, etc. There are many spells, ranging from disabling spells, offensive spells, supporting spells, etc. When there is more than one hero, they can work together to utilise each of their abilities, like to disable one hero, while the other hero can spam all his/her heavy nukes on the enemy, for complete annihilation.

The different combos that could be done is extensive, due to the abundance of heroes and the limitless boundary of the human creative mind. Every now and then, new tactics arises to surprise players who are to slow to adapt to the changes.

There is also items which the heroes can be equipped with, to make them more powerful on the battlefield, either making them more durable, stronger, or give them new abilites. With the items, even more combos can be born from it, a man-horse can teleport instantly to the enemy's side and deal a mighty stomp right in front of him/her, causing a temporary stun and dealing some damage too.

The game is more than just using spells and buying item and atk the enemy hero. There are many 'personal player skills' that cannot be learn by "leveling up". There is the understanding of the attacking piority of computer scripts, the utilising of command triggers loophole, mind games, trash talking, etc. Sometimes halfway through a game, the enemy just cant take the pressure and leaves the battle. Dota takes alot from the player. Its, more than a game.

By playing dota, one's mind also gets sharper as much thought is required for new combos and stratagies in dota. XinJiTsu can also be practised through dota because backstab and 'jian ah gua'ism" is commonly excercised.

However, there is 2 sides to everything, as nothing is perfect. Dota takes up alot of the consumers' resouces, which leads to inefficient allocation of resources. Hence, government intervention is required. There must be taxation on the consumption of dota, so the marginal social benefits will be greater than the marginal social cost.

That being said, dota is still a very good game with benefits greatly outweighty the cons. Dota is more than jus killing moving mushrooms and defaming enemies, it is about intelligence and the mind power of the player.
